Although I spent my career as a private investigator, I am not Graham Gage . . . But if you sense authenticity in Gage, it's because when Geneva's winter winds pierce his overcoat and needle his skin, it was first my coat and my skin. When he sweats through his shirt in Lima or Bangalore, it was my shirt and my sweat. When he alerts to a shoe scrape in a Kiev shadow, or to the furrowing brow of a tribal elder in Peshawar, or to the rodent stare of a money launderer in London, he does it with my eyes and my ears. And when he walks toward a mobster across an Italian piazza, he does it with my legs and with my feet, and by my will... We're told to write what we know. Graham Gage is who I know and Final Target and the others in the series are what I know. Steven Gore |
